City concert losses: Call in public accounts

MAYOR Peter Kelly’s explanations of his role in the city’s loss of $359,550 in last year’s concert flops don’t add up.

There was no good reason for Mr. Kelly to keep council in the dark about the release of city funds to Harold MacKay, after the promoter told Mr. Kelly and Chief Administrative Officer Wayne Anstey he might have to cancel a concert because of poor ticket sales.

If the show had been scrapped, the city would have been out $1.8 million because it had guaranteed advances to Mr. MacKay’s company against ticket sales.
