Report: Trim council by three

The size of Halifax regional council should be trimmed by three members, says a new report to the province.

It says a 20-member council plus the mayor can satisfactorily “carry out the essential governmental functions” of Halifax Regional Municipality.

The report, by Ontario consultant Robert Williams, was filed with the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board on Monday. A public hearing in June at the board’s office in Halifax is to cover the council size issue.
