Halifax council should look inward to try to settle any disputes among members or deal with alleged wrongdoing and not air its dirty laundry in public.
Those are recommendations in a new municipal staff report on a code of conduct for the mayor and regional council. The report is on the agenda for Monday’s meeting of council’s administrative standing committee.
Deputy Mayor Jim Smith (Albro Lake-Harbourview), a member of the committee, said Saturday that self-regulation might be OK sometimes but there could be times when an outside ethics authority is required to rule on conduct matters.
